I found Eye of Terror to be ridiculously gradiose in a shallow way. That factor brings me to a second criticism that stuck with me throughout the novel.
While the Cryptum preserved the consciousness of the Forerunner inside for an indefinite period, the Forerunner’s physical body would still deteriorate, albeit at a significantly reduced rate. The Forerunners are characters that are nearly immortal and their reach is galactic in scope. The protagonist, named Bornstellar, awakens an exiled warrior, the Didact, who recruits Bornstellar and his companions, reveals the history haol Forerunner-human war and the existence of Halo superweapons, giant rings with the potential to kill every conscious being in the galaxy.
We see the Master Builder and Librarian agreeing that the Halos are the best solution to stopping the Flood.
The Art of Halo 5: When the millennial seal was unsealed, the Cryptum emitted an intense flash of blue light, which apparently caused anyone in the vicinity to feel as if time had been suspended.
